How to Return Items in Alma
There are two methods to return items in Alma. Items can be returned within the patron’s account, or you can access the Return Items page through the Fulfillment menu.

Return Method #1
The first method for returns is accessible through the patron’s record. This is for items loaned to a single person.
- Before returning materials, make sure the Write Tags security is set to turn the item security ON.
- To return items within the patron’s account:
- Select the Returns tab on the Patron Services page.
- Scan the item(s) in the “Scan item barcode” box by placing the item(s) on the antennae.
- Click on the “Done” button after checking the material(s) in the patron’s record.
*PATRONS WILL RECEIVE A RETURN RECEIPT VIA EMAIL AFTER YOU CLICK ON THE DONE BUTTON. IF YOU DO NOT CLICK ON THE BUTTON, PATRONS WILL NOT RECEIVE A RETURN RECEIPT.
Return method #2
This is the preferred method for returning items. It allows you to return items in bulk.
- Before returning materials, make sure the Write Tags security is set to turn the item security ON.
- Go to the Fulfillment menu.
- Select Return Items.
- Scan the item(s) in the “Scan item barcode” box on the “Manage Item Returns” page by placing the item(s) on the antennae.
PATRONS WILL RECEIVED AN EMAIL IMMEDIATELY AFTER ITEMS ARE RETURNED.
