How do I use Write Tags to fix or load an RFID tag?
Answer
Materials must have RFID (radio-frequency identification) tags in order for self-check to work. Each item must be tagged, each tag must be scanned, and each barcode must be scanned to connect to the RFID tag.
Tagging a Book:
- Click on the yellow icon: “Write Tags;” maximize screen
- Click on “Write Tag Choices”: Make sure #1 (Security), 3 (Maximum 14), and 5 (Minimum 14) are checked
*Do not “lock” tags as we need option to override them
- Check book to see if it already has a tag on the inside back cover (do not tag)
- Lay tag on antenna
- Scan book barcode
- Message comes up “1 Scanned Tags” (Security- “On”)
- Check that the correct last 3 numbers of barcode appear on screen
- If there's a problem writing a tag, give the item to the Circulation Supervisor with a note explaining what happened
- Place tag inside back cover approx. 1 inch away from spine, back inside cover, stagger position
If a patron is attempting to check out an item that with a malfunctioning tag and you are unable to retag it, the item can be checked out by barcode using a scanner.
