Searching Alma for Items in a Temporary Location
Answer
It can be confusing when trying to search Alma for items listed with a temporary location. When you ‘restore’ something that was in a temporary location back to its permanent location, Alma does not actually remove the temporary location information. All Alma does is change the field ‘item is in temporary location’ from Yes to No.
Depending on what you are trying to find, there are two ways to identify items that are actually displaying the temporary location.
-
Current location Equals <location name>
-
Add line to search for: In Temporary Location Equals Yes
Example 1: On Display (every item that displays in Primo will have a temporary location in use)
-
Using ‘Current location equals’ results in 99 hits
-
Using ‘Temporary physical location Equals’ by itself results in many more hits than the 99 indicated above
-
Adding ‘In temporary location Equals Yes’ results in 99
Example 2: Reserves (where some items may have a temporary location in use while other are in a permanent location)
-
Using ‘Current location equals’ results in 233 hits. This is everything in Reserves, whether using a temporary location or a permanent location.
-
Using ‘Temporary physical location Equals’ with ‘In temporary location Equals Yes’ results in only 90 items. The remaining items are in a permanent location of Reserves.
Using ‘Current location equals’ AND ‘in temporary location Equals Yes’ also results in 90.
