What services are available to local high school students?
Answer
Local high school students can have varying levels of access to TCC library resources and services. Information about the borrowing privileges for different types of patrons, including dual enrollment students, Virginia Beach Public Library cardholders, and community patrons, can be found on the Circulation Borrowing Guide.
- Dual enrollment students (those earning TCC credits in courses through their high school) can get more information on the Dual Enrollment Research Guide. DE students have on- and off-campus access to TCC digital resources using their myTCC credentials and may visit the libraries with their TCC IDs, which also function as library cards.
- Virginia Beach Public Library cardholders are able to make limited visits the Joint-Use Library, request print and A/V materials from the other campuses, and use the JUL 1st floor computer lab to access TCC digital resources.
- Other high school students are encouraged to use their local public libraries and high school libraries.
- Chesapeake Public Library - Anyone with a valid Chesapeake Public Library card can access research databases in and out of the library. Chesapeake Public School students have a CPL account.
- Norfolk Public Library - Anyone with a valid Norfolk Public Library card can access research databases in and out of the library.
- Portsmouth Public Library - Anyone with a valid Portsmouth Public Library card can access research databases in and out of the library.
- Suffolk Public Library - Anyone with a Suffolk Public Library card can access research databases in and out of the library.
- Virginia Beach Public Library - Virginia Beach residents can apply for a free public library card to access VBPL databases in and out of the library. Virginia Beach City Public School students have a VBPL account. The student account does not provide access to the TCC computer labs, however.
